This year the Salers celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the promotion of the breed in Ireland with a present membership of over 100 breeders. Salers are better known and understood as a Suckler cow breed.
Introduced in New Zealand in 1987, Salers are taking their place as a unique European breed with a balance of traits ideal for cross breeding. Salers have proved adaptable to New Zealand conditions from Northland to Invercargill.

Salers Benefit from Diet Change at Poldean 20/10/06
The French Salers breed, which is reknowned for easy calving and
good milk production, has been at Poldean since the early 1990s,
but when the farm’s beef cattle and sheep were culled out
in the 2001 foot and mouth epidemic the Davidsons had to re-establish
their herd.
The difficult
environmental conditions where the Salers breed developed makes it
ideal for the poorer areas of the British Isles and todays beef industry.
The UPRA
Salers (Unit for the selection and Promotion of the Salers breed)
is a non profit association which groups together all the partners
involved in the selection and promotional activities implemented
for the Salers breed.
